Snowflake Challenge 2025 | Part two

Like last year, I decided to participate again in the snowflake challenge.

I’ll be posting weekly in the month of January.

The Masterpost of the 2025 Snowflake Challenge for all participants are linked here.

Challenge #5 – What has improved in your life thanks to fandom

I think this counts for a lot of people, but mainly having people to talk to. Finding like-minded people, some of which I’ve now ‘known’ for 20 years, which is basically an incredibly long penpal relationship. We’ve been through heartaches and joys together, both fandom wise (either related to the fandom or people involved in the fandom, there are a lot of people that are still missed to this day) and personal life, and it’s just… incredibly special.

It’s difficult for me to talk to people, especially about stuff that I like. The internet and fandom has definitely made my life better.

And, of course, learning new skills. Like formatting your stories, making graphics or in my case also getting better at English, much up to the point now where I’m conversing far more in English than my native language, especially on the internet.

Challenge #6 – Share your favourite piece of original canon

So last year I chose this… and I still stand by it, Kol Mikaelson is always the wronged!

*crickets*

Yeahhh so I gave it a few days of thought and uhh… let’s just stick with the answer I gave last year LOL. My brain is fried due to unexpected social events and my car giving me the best birthday gift ever; a rear brake locked up and the mechanic is having issues getting it lose and fixed so I can drive again.

Challenge #7 Create a list of at least three things you’d love to receive, something you’ve wanted but were afraid to ask for – a wishlist of sorts.

I… don’t like this challenge?

So, I’m going to give you fandoms/pairings, and you tell me a prompt or two or a story idea and I’ll do my best to fulfill your wish (and hopefully keep things short but we all know how that can go).

NCIS: Gibbs/Ducky
Twilight/The Originals: Kol/Bella
NCIS/Stargate Atlantis: Ziva/Sheppard
Stargate Atlantis: Parrish/Lorne
Twilight/Covert Affairs: Bella/Auggie
Twilight/Teen Wolf: Bella/Isaac
Twilight/White Collar: Bella/Neal

Would you like to see anything else? Maybe SGA/The Originals?? (I think I can make that work) Try me!

Challenge #7 Write a promo, manifesto or primer for a beloved character, relationship or fandom.

Oh, I remember crack_van, I drove the van in 2006 for Mutant X LOL. God, where does the time go and holy shit that brings back some memories.

Soooo the main issue is that I’m not an active participant in fandom anymore. I just stick to my own corner and do my thing. I don’t know where to find stuff anymore.

I could do some on NCIS, Gibbs and Ducky, but nakeisha already did that so splendidly many years ago and you simply can’t add to that perfection, even after all these years, it still holds up. WHY HAVE I NEVER COMMENTED ON THAT?? *comments*

So… kinda in line with my answer for Challenge 6, I kinda want to (re-)introduce you to The Originals.

Family is power. Always and Forever.

We were first introduced to the Mikaelsons in the original show The Vampire Diaries, and fans loved them so much that they received their own spin-off show; The Originals.

I started to watch The Originals (and binge watch The Vampire Diaries because I wanted to know WTF was going on) because Daniel Sharman was going to be in it and fell in love with the story telling, the locations and just…

Stripping back all the magic, the vampirism, and the drama, all it boils down to is that the Mikaelsons are a family, a family like any other. Every family has fights. Siblings fight. People are afraid of their parents. There’s always a favourite sibling.

Klaus is a hybrid (vampire/werewolf because mommy dearest decided to cheat on her viking husband) with a lot of charm, a temper and a lot of ambition. He’s basically a mutt, an anomaly.

He’s very smart and always seems to be various steps ahead of his enemies. People fear Klaus, because he can be unpredictable and has a tendency to be extremely violent.

On the flip side, Klaus is insecure and has a healthy dose of anxiety that relates to being abandoned and betrayed. Everything he does, he claims, is because of his family. Because he doesn’t want them to leave.

It’s why he likes to use special silver daggers on his siblings to put them to sleep and keep them safe when they do something he doesn’t like. He wants to keep them safe, so they don’t leave.

Despite everything, Klaus wants love, acceptance and mostly, loyalty. His softer side is mostly shown towards his siblings, and his daughter, Hope.

He just doesn’t realize that he has all the love, acceptance and loyalty from his siblings, because of his fear of abandonment.

Elijah is often referred to as the ‘noble brother’ but boyyyyy. There’s noble and then there’s… Elijah. Elijah is the oldest brother (Finn is the eldest of all) who likes to… meddle protect.

Elijah shows a lot of sophistication and restraint, carrying himself with dignity to pretend that he isn’t ruthless, perhaps even more than Klaus, and a formidable fighter. He values honor, tradition and loyalty (it’s actually an obsession to him) and he has excellent self-control, even in the face of chaos.

On the other side of things, all of this self-control is because Elijah has a deeply tormented, traumatized, soul and he’s plagued by guilt and the burden of decisions made in the name of family.

One of Elijah’s life missions is to serve as Klaus’ protector and apologist, and feels that Klaus is someone he is destined to save from his own darkness.

Rebekah is the only daughter (ha) and the youngest. She’s passionate, independent and unafraid to stand up to her brothers. She’s a survivor and a dreamer.

She is resilient and vulnerable at the same time, she yearns for a normal life. Love. Family. Her wants often clashes with what Klaus wants. His paranoid and possessive nature often drives a wedge between them.

But despite centuries of heartache, she remains determined to pursue her dreams of love and happiness, away from all the chaos that her family brings.

They’re the main characters of the show, and yes, it could get boring if it were just these three; but the writers of The Originals crafted a story around them that makes sense. A child they rescued from a plantation, now an adult, parents coming back from the death (as a direct result from “someone” destroying the other side in Mystic Falls), a superwitch (or four), first sirelings… supernatural councils… and of course, Kol.

Did I mention New Orleans is the setting of this show?

Do you need to have watched The Vampire Diaries before starting the show? Not really. You’d just miss the Easter eggs, but you’d be okay by just watching Seasons two, three and four.

Once The Originals concluded, they came out with yet another spin-off called Legacies, which was about the life of Hope Mikaelson at the Salvatore school for special kids uhh… Magic School. Mystic Fall’s Hogwarts. Combining the kids from The Originals and The Vampire Diaries. I don’t know man. I feel that this was a step too far (although the occasional episodes with beloved characters from both shows like Kai Parker HELPED this show a lot, imo).

Also, thank you all for the birthday wishes, that’s very kind of you! I had a nice, quiet one and I happened upon a parent of mine a few days later in town so we went out to dinner, kind of a spur of the moment thing, it was fun 🙂

See you for the next batch!

Buggy.
