Chapter 05 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She entered the home, a hallway leading to various rooms. There were several pictures up the wall as the man lead her inside and pointed at the couch for her to sit down on. Five minutes later, he returned with some tea and sat down on a chair. \u201cYou must be wondering who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI introduced myself, it would be nice to know your name, too,\u201d Bella smiled at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy name is Joshua Parker, I\u2019m the leader of the Gemini coven,\u201d he replied. \u201cAnd forgive me for rushing you inside, it\u2019s been a while since we had someone from the Swans find us for answers. They\u2019re usually male, though.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo you know my family?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Parker nodded. \u201cA long long time ago, they were ousted from our coven and only the tiniest connection exists to our coven to help those who seek answers about their magic,\u201d he then let out a breath. \u201cBut for you to be in the company of the Original who loves witches, has me worried.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy?\u201d Bella asked curiously. \u201cFrom what I\u2019ve been told, he\u2019s the most knowledgeable about witches and their magic than anyone of his family and he always treats them with the utmost respect. He was my friend before we found out that I have magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs much as he loves witches, he will only be their friend as long he can use them, as long as they\u2019re useful to him, usually leaving the witch in question dead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not like that with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t know him, I do,\u201d Bella said a bit more resolute. \u201cAnd to be honest, I come here for help, and you only insult the one who\u2019s traveled with me to make sure I stay safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou wish to talk about safety? I\u2019m responsible for the entire coven. If you found me, then others can find me as well. Like the other vampires out there. What do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what they want, but again, I need help understanding my magic. I\u2019m not here to hurt you or your coven, I\u2019m merely running into some issues and I\u2019ve heard that you have experience with my kind of magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhich is?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been told I\u2019m a siphoner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua paled then. \u201cLike your distant relatives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPerhaps, but I might be different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour kind are leaches. An abomination. We don\u2019t want your kind in our coven, that\u2019s why we ousted them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhich is fair. You\u2019re purists, I can understand that. But still, you\u2019ll have a lot more knowledge about this power than I do, and I\u2019m having some issues,\u201d Bella replied evenly. This man was hostile towards her, she could do the same thing back. It was a good thing that she took some magic off of Kol while they were walking through the barrier, she could still feel it inside of her. \u201cLike\u2026 when I get my magic off of a willing Original or one of their sirelings, I can control it. However, I\u2019m involved in some shit that requires contact with shifter wolves and vampires of the Cold One variety and then my magic becomes unstable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re better off not taking the magic out of others. You could kill people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have. A bunch of newborn Cold Ones who were going to kill me and anyone in their way,\u201d Bella replied. \u201cSo please, tell me why it\u2019s harder to control my magic when I siphon off a Cold One or the wolves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy should I?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause I want to help people with my gift and I can\u2019t do that when it\u2019s out of control. You may think I\u2019m an abomination, and that\u2019s fine, but please tell me what\u2019s wrong with me and I\u2019ll be out of your hair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to help you, and seeing as you\u2019re not drinking the tea, I\u2019m sorry,\u201d Joshua said as he started to mutter a spell, but Bella was fast enough to deflect it. \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Angrily, Bella got to her feet. \u201cDo you honestly believe I came with you without making sure I had the means to protect myself?\u201d She fumed. \u201cI don\u2019t know what the fuck has gotten into you, but aren\u2019t witches supposed to help each other? I come here for help<\/em> because your coven are experts when it comes to siphoners because you keep kicking them out. I didn\u2019t even want to come here, you know, but that Original witch-lover out there, and his family, wanted me to get help because they\u2019re afraid something will go wrong with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, it will,\u201d Joshua spat. \u201cMy own son killed four of my children, wounded three of them, because he had learned that my wife and I kept trying for more children to have another set of twins so that one of them could become the leader of our coven. He was an abomination. There was a reason why we ousted people like you, and I had been a fool to keep my son around.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella blinked at him. \u201cWow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe safety of this coven is paramount. Once the surviving twins are of age, they will merge and my daughter Liv will become our new leader.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat happened to your son?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry to hear that you\u2019ve had so many issues with your family for your beloved coven. It must have been hard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt has been 18 years. I can still hear them all run around this house, laughing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAgain, sorry for your loss. I can imagine you don\u2019t want to help me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, I want to kill you,\u201d Joshua said as he shot another spell at her, causing her to double over in pain. She couldn\u2019t do anything back, she hadn\u2019t taken that much from Kol but with this guy wanting to kill her, she wished she had taken more. \u201cThere\u2019s no place for you, all you siphoners bring is death and destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Joshua got closer, Bella grabbed his ankle and took some of his magic to push him away from her before scrambling to her feet and nearly falling outside the house as Joshua had come for her again. She was nowhere near the barrier to weaken it or to get rid of it. \u201cI came here in respect!\u201d Bella let out a whimper as Joshua flattened her to the ground. She managed to get her hand from underneath her and knocked him out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She gasped for air as she got back to her feet and stumbled towards the barrier and fell through it, right into Kol\u2019s arms. \u201cHe\u2019s a dick.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAre you alright?\u201d Kol asked worriedly as he helped her to her feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI will be,\u201d she nodded as she looked over to the two other vampires and the human.\u201dLet them figure out a way to get in there themselves, I have all that we need,\u201d she replied, a small smile on her lips as they walked towards the car. \u201cWell, snippets, but the internet is a wonderful place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou need to take it easy,\u201d Kol said as he helped her in the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be fine.\u201d Kol didn\u2019t hold back when driving off, making Bella get smushed against the chair and when he hit a bump, she let out another whimper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou said you\u2019d be fine,\u201d Kol grinned as he didn\u2019t slow down on their way to the hotel he had booked while she\u2019d been inside the house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAsshole.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo what did you learn?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat the Gemini are dicks, that they think of siphoners as abominations. And that their current leader cares more about the coven than his own family. He lost four children because his siphoner son went mental.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo would you if you discovered that your parents try to have another set of twins because they don\u2019t think that you\u2019d make a good leader.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to be a leader,\u201d Kol blinked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, but in the past, you were jealous and angry at Klaus, just imagine that feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol was quiet as he turned another corner towards the hotel. \u201cBetrayal by those you love and are supposed to love you sucks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat if you were promised something and you didn\u2019t get it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m sort of alright with my impulses now, darling. But in the past, I would have gone on a killing spree.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded as she braced herself for another turn at full speed. \u201cI think that\u2019s what happened with Parker\u2019s son.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPerhaps, but you don\u2019t know that,\u201d Kol replied with a shrug. \u201cBut don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ll find someone else who can help you. It\u2019ll just take a while longer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella sighed. She had an idea but she had no idea if Kol was going to agree to it, because it meant that she\u2019d possibly put herself in harm\u2019s way. \u201cYou and Myriam told me yourself that someone like me is rare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrue,\u201d he parked in the parking lot of the hotel. \u201cBut we\u2019ll find someone, I promise,\u201d he said as he helped her out of the car with a smirk on his face. \u201cWould you like to have some of my blood now, darling?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella sighed and nodded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot that I\u2019m pressing you or anything, but I hate to see you in pain and my blood is an easy fix,\u201d he said as he walked with her to their hotel room, carrying their bags. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to suffer unnecessarily.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiredly, she ran a hand through her hair and nodded. \u201cBut I\u2019m afraid that I\u2019ll go haywire with the magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNonsense, darling, you can handle that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd you said I could handle the wolves\u2019 magic. And the Cold Ones,\u201d she countered angrily. \u201cWhat if I\u2019m losing control altogether? What if I\u2019ll turn into Mr. Parker\u2019s son? What if I get so consumed with the magic that I like completely lose it? What if the Gemini coven is right to push siphoners out of their coven because they can\u2019t handle the magic?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou won\u2019t become like that, you don\u2019t have it in you,\u201d Kol said as he opened the door of her hotel room and put her bag inside. He grabbed one of the glasses, bit his hand and put some of his blood inside of it, setting it on the desk. \u201cGet some rest. I\u2019m going to find something to drink and I\u2019ll find us a nice place to eat later, okay?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And with that, Kol left. Just like Bella had wanted. Oh, it was likely she was going to lose control over her magic eventually especially if she\u2019d get into touch with wolves and Cold Ones again. But she needed to do research, so she could propose her plan to Kol over dinner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She grabbed some orange juice from the minibar and mixed it with Kol\u2019s blood before knocking it back and grabbing her laptop out of her bag before connecting to the internet and started to do her research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol knocked on her door a few hours later, and she opened the door with a big smile on her face. \u201cI don\u2019t trust that smile,\u201d he said playfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShall we order room service instead of going out?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy? I found a great restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause I found out what happened to the Parkers and did some more digging,\u201d she smiled at him as she pulled him inside the room before sitting back down on her bed with her laptop. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing what you can find on google these days, news articles are public and if you pay for it you can even see the census and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBella, we\u2019ll just find someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She looked at him and shook her head. \u201c20 years ago, the Parker family lived in that house. Father Joshua, his wife Joanne, twins Malachai and Josette, Joey, Patricia, Patrick, John and twins Olivia and Lucas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is a lot of children, not even my parents were that mad,\u201d he replied as he sat down in a chair and grabbed the menu for ordering room service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd then I texted Myriam, asking what she knew about the Gemini coven when it came to twins. I mean, Gemini means twins, so it must be pretty important, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo become the leader of the coven, like Joshua, twins have to perform a merge ceremony when they\u2019re 22. The strongest one practically absorbs the weaker one of the twin and the weakest dies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not surprising, I\u2019ve encountered a coven back in the day where they had to sacrifice one of their own family to become leader. It was all about who was the most ruthless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella shuddered at the thought. \u201cSo imagine that you\u2019re a teenage boy and you learn about this. And you learn that they\u2019re rooting for your twin to survive the merge because you\u2019re not capable of performing magic on your own\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019d kill everyone in my path.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She smiled at him then. This was the sentiment she\u2019d been hoping to hear from him. \u201c18 years ago, Malachai Parker slaughtered his younger siblings. His twin Josette survived, and Olivia and Lucas, but their locations are unknown. Malachai disappeared from the face of the earth. Can\u2019t find much about the whole Parker family after he went berserk. But from what I could gather from my experience with Papa Parker was that the coven came first, not family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was then when it clicked in Kol\u2019s head. \u201cNo. Your future self gave you rules. Going back that far is close to when you were born.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be here. And I\u2019m just going to talk to him. See if he can help me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol pinched the bridge of his nose. \u201cI think that\u2019s a bad idea. He killed his family, Bella.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd you and your family killed thousands,\u201d Bella pointed out. \u201cI\u2019m merely going to see if he\u2019s willing to help, what he was like before everything.\u201d She turned the laptop around and smiled. \u201cI know where he went to school? I could go there? Safe place?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat if you get stuck?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI won\u2019t. I know what to do now. And I\u2019m going back with a purpose, not because I\u2019m afraid or overwhelmed with magic,\u201d she replied confidently as she took the menu out of his hands and looked at the menu. \u201cAre you hungry?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just fed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThen I\u2019ll eat in 1996,\u201d she nodded as she put the unappetizing menu away and looked at him. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to stop me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol let out a groan. \u201cI should,\u201d he replied as he looked at her. \u201cBut, this might be the only chance you\u2019re going to get to talk to another siphoner and maybe understand what\u2019s going on. As you said, we said your kind is rare.\u201d He then let out a sigh as he moved to sit down next to her on the bed. \u201cHowever, this will be our secret and we won\u2019t tell Nik or Myriam. And don\u2019t force your stay over there. If it becomes strenuous, you\u2019re coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot everyone can be saved, you know that, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to save him, Kol. I\u2019m going for information.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol let out a snort and shook his head. \u201cI want to wager that if you return, you\u2019re going to say that you want to go back because he could use a friend and that you were going to give him that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNope. You\u2019ll lose.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAm I?\u201d Kol asked teasingly. \u201cYou have a big, bleeding heart, Bella Swan. And your danger radar is far off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYep, you\u2019re going to lose,\u201d she said with determination. \u201cIf I find out he needs a friend, I\u2019ll get him a puppy,\u201d Bella added smugly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor him to kill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, he might.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re the worst.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNah, Myriam\u2019s worse than me,\u201d Kol grinned as he held out his hand. \u201cReady?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~o.O.o~ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a good thing that she looked young enough, still, to be in high school. And it was flipping awesome that she could still direct herself in time and<\/em> place so that she could go wherever she wanted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She took some time to look around on campus, and when lunch break happened, she happily joined the queue to get herself something to eat as well, the food looked a lot more appetizing than the hotel menu had done. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After getting her tray, she looked around and found that it wasn\u2019t really hard to find Malachai Parker. He was sitting by himself, not even at a table but in the corner and anxiously looking around while he ate his food. Just by looking at him, she was confused as how he\u2019d end up killing most of his family in just a few years. He was supposed to be around her age, 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella made her way over to him and sat down next to him before digging into her food. \u201cHey,\u201d she greeted him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUh\u2026\u201d Malachai\u2019s cheeks turned beet red and he tried to move further into the corner. \u201cWhy are you talking to me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause I\u2019m new to this school. Can\u2019t I be the new kid who likely does the stupidest things? I mean, there must be a reason why you\u2019re all by yourself\u2026\u201d she popped a grape into her mouth as she looked at him. \u201cLet me guess\u2026 you\u2019re a nerd, but at the lowest rank. You love those Japanese cartoons or something?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo,\u201d he huffed, shaking his head. \u201cMy sister and the rest of the family have been telling everyone to stay away from me, makes it hard to finish school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not afraid,\u201d Bella smiled at him and held out her hand. \u201cI\u2019m Bella.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m Kai,\u201d he said as he shook her hand before his eyes grew wide. \u201cYou\u2019re a witch?\u201d he whispered at her. \u201cAnd you\u2019re sitting right next to me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have no idea what you\u2019re talking about, Kai,\u201d Bella said smugly as she took a sip of her drink before looking around and sighed. \u201cHow did you know?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause I\u2019m one too,\u201d Kai grinned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella bit her lip as she looked at him. \u201cWanna skip school and do magic?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai\u2019s face lit up like a Christmas tree. \u201cHell yeah!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

They were walking in the nearby woods that Bella had spotted before in her present. Nothing special about the woods, just trees and leaves on the ground. The sun was coming through the trees just a little making it look like\u2026 well, any ordinary forest. Kai shoved his hands into his pockets. \u201cI have a confession to make.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d Bella asked as she finished off the sandwich she was eating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\u2019t actually do magic. My family tells everyone to stay away from me and I\u2019m basically the black sheep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, me neither, but I took some magic from someone before I came here,\u201d she said as a matter of factly, making Kai stop in his tracks. \u201cYou want some?\u201d Bella smiled as she held out her hand. \u201cDon\u2019t take it all, but just a little to do some magic. We can share.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, I couldn\u2019t\u2026\u201d Kai just stared at her hand as if she had offered him the holy grail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t you ever get that rush when you\u2019re on magic? Like\u2026 you want to do everything and prove that you aren\u2019t a failure? And when the magic is gone, you still feel it lingering underneath your skin? Like fire? Or a thousand ants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded as she sat down on a tree-stump. \u201cAll the time. Well, not from the source I usually get my magic from, but from other magical creatures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOther?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded. \u201cYou know how there are Traveler witches, right? Back in the day they got a bit too greedy and they turned into these\u2026 marbled kind of statues. Vampires. Their blood turned into acid, sparkle in the sun\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFairytales.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, true deal,\u201d Bella laughed as she showed Kai the scar on her wrist. \u201cThere\u2019s still a bit of their venom inside of that scar, but it\u2019s not really magical so otherwise I could have used that\u2026 When I try to siphon from them\u2026 my magic goes haywire and I feel like I\u2019m losing my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have that with all magic. And you know why? It\u2019s not our own magic, we never know what we can expect when we take from people. Or how much\u2026\u201d Kai let out a snort then. \u201cMy coven hates witches like us and they usually get kicked out but I\u2019m only here because Jo and I are the future leaders of our coven. We have to merge in a few years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella looked at him with a disgusted look on her face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, no, not like\u2026 oh gross!\u201d Kai rubbed his eyes. \u201cMental image\u2026 no! It\u2019s a spell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, okay then.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut they don\u2019t want me anywhere near them, afraid that I could end up killing them or something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is bullshit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah well, what do your parents do when you\u2019re jonesing for magic?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t\u2026 but I had to walk it off when I got into contact with those Traveler vampires.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai hummed. \u201cThey always tell me that I should be exposed to more kinds of magic\u2026 kinds of witches, but they won\u2019t let me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was still holding out her hand. \u201cTake some. It\u2019ll be alright,\u201d Bella smiled at him. \u201cI\u2019m here, I can take it back if it\u2019s too much. Show me things, Kai.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai took her hand and she could feel the new sensation of someone siphoning magic out of her. \u201cWow, that feels\u2026 weird.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStrangely sexual?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai smiled then. \u201cMy coven is great at invisibility spells, want me to teach you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInvisibility?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai nodded. \u201cIt\u2019s a glorified cloaking spell but it actually sticks when you move around and when you want out, you\u2019re out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlright, then I will teach you how to knock someone out without harming them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the fun in that?\u201d Kai whined. \u201cDon\u2019t you know something more exciting?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou can get what I can give you. I\u2019m new to this. I mean\u2026 I haven\u2019t learned that much,\u201d Bella replied. \u201cThe people I\u2019m with have a lot of knowledge about witches but not about\u2026 well, siphoners. I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m capable of.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat sucks!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, let\u2019s stick together then. You and me versus the world,\u201d Kai nodded. \u201cAlright, so everything with magic is about the intention and a little help from words, yeah? Imagine you want to turn yourself invisible and say Invisique<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInvisique?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai was impressed. \u201cWow, you actually did it first try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNah, I\u2019m not invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah you are,\u201d Kai laughed as he reached out for her but couldn\u2019t find her. \u201cHonestly, you\u2019re gone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m not,\u201d Bella said as she appeared before Kai again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAre you sure you don\u2019t know much about magic and spells?\u201d Kai playfully raised a brow. \u201cBecause that was quite difficult to do, you know. Took me and my sister months.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know\u2026 Spells do come easy but\u2026 I don\u2019t know. I just don\u2019t understand why.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo worries, I\u2019ll help you. I\u2019m not saying I can do a lot, seeing as my family tries to keep me away from books and grimoires, but I can try,\u201d Kai shrugged. \u201cI\u2019m definitely going to try to verify that Traveler story with my dad, seeing if it\u2019s true or not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded and saw someone walk up to them with an angry look on their face. \u201cFriend of yours?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy sister Josette,\u201d Kai sighed. \u201cParty time is over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReach out with your hand and wiggle your fingers some as you think of wanting them to lose consciousness,\u201d Bella said as she showed him the movement. \u201cShe\u2019ll go to sleep and fall to the ground,\u201d she replied before realizing it was not the best idea to tell this to a sociopath, but this boy was bitter. Like Kol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And damnit, Kol had been right. She wanted to help Kai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLike this?\u201d Kai did what Bella showed him and was surprised that Josette went down. \u201cHow? Surely it must be the stable magic you\u2019ve siphoned. Surely!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaybe, I don\u2019t know,\u201d Bella replied before she started to feel the tug to snap back. \u201cYou should head back to school, I\u2019ll be back in a bit\u2026 I need to use the little girl\u2019s room.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWill you be back?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hope so,\u201d Bella smiled at him. \u201cYou\u2019re fun to hang out with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSame to you,\u201d he smiled at her before looking at his sister. \u201cHow long will she be down for?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEh, another 15 minutes. Time enough for you to hurry back to school and for me to get the hell out of dodge,\u201d Bella replied as she started to walk away from him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHey, do you have a pager?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella froze at that question before finding an answer. \u201cMy parents think that pagers are for adults. I\u2019m clearly not an adult yet because I\u2019m always getting into trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll get you one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, you don\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat? If you don\u2019t have a pager, you\u2019re not one of the cool kids,\u201d Kai replied. \u201cBesides, I already have one for emergencies,\u201d he winked at her. \u201cSee you around, Bella, maybe tomorrow?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella returned only seconds after having disappeared with a frustrated look on her face. At least she was safe and she didn\u2019t look hurt. \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d Kol asked before her face changed and lit up with a big smile. \u201cNo, you can\u2019t keep him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s lonely, he\u2019s not allowed to be around people or items with magic because they\u2019re afraid of him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFine, he\u2019d be in his forties now anyway. But I am going back to give him a friend and learn more. Strangely, he was really open and talkative with me – a complete stranger!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded. \u201cAnd I told Kai about the kind of vampires that were an accident of the Travelers, so maybe next time when I go back he has some news.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid he have an explanation as to why you react so strongly on their magic?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s likely because it\u2019s a different kind of magic than I\u2019m used to, but he wasn\u2019t sure, either. So yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat is it with these witches? Why are they so useless?\u201d Frustrated, Kol ran a hand through his hair and watched as Bella grabbed her laptop. \u201cWhat are you going to do?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m going to be a teenager hanging out more in 1996, it\u2019s best to brush up on my popular culture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUgh,\u201d Kol let out a groan. \u201cAre we really going to do this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded. \u201cAnd I want to take an enchanted item back with me next time I go, so he can use that for magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBella!\u201d Kol whined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe likely won\u2019t ever give you the information you need, so why don’t we just move on? Let things go and we\u2019ll just find us some Cold One we can keep prisoner for you to get your magic off. I\u2019m sure your friendly wolves would love to help out with getting you used to their magic so you won\u2019t be overwhelmed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut what if that\u2019s not the reason? What if there\u2019s a completely different reason?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaybe some things need to remain unexplained.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKol!\u201d Now it was her turn to let out a whine and she grabbed a pillow to hit him with it. \u201cSo far, the magic of the wolves got me into trouble by getting me stuck when I freaked out, and taking magic from Victoria worked like a drug. I could feel the magic underneath my skin, even as it left me. Like an addict. Like\u2026 I needed\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother drink?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded. \u201cIt\u2019s terrible. Kai explained the same feeling to me, but that\u2019s already when he\u2019s had some normal to him magic, and I think that it\u2019s like this for him because they don\u2019t expose him to magic anymore. I\u2019m thinking that if we help him with magic and be at ease with it without getting withdrawal symptoms, we\u2019d be good. I just\u2026\u201d she let out a breath. \u201cI just can\u2019t leave him like that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBella, he\u2019s not your problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m not yours, but yet, here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe will kill people in just a couple of years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah, and?\u201d she shot at him. \u201cWe\u2019ve been over this, Kol. You\u2019ve done shittier things out of spite, out of hate and perhaps even out of love and loyalty than Kai has done in this particular time. Maybe<\/em> we can help him and he won\u2019t have to kill his family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd what if you<\/em> can\u2019t?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThen at least I\u2019ve tried. You turned your life around, didn\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA bit,\u201d Kol replied with a slight nod. \u201cBut it took Myriam years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, then maybe he can too. And seeing as he\u2019s not a vampire with heightened emotions, maybe all it takes is a friend he can do magic with,\u201d Bella countered with a shrug. \u201cBesides, I think I can make multiple trips in one day so we won\u2019t be here for long. Maybe he can teach me a thing or two. Please, Kol. He\u2019s the only one who understands how I work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, he understood her all too well. It wasn\u2019t a great feeling to feel alone. He had felt like that for several times during his long life, right until Myriam entered the life of the Mikaelsons. Myriam made sure he was included, felt included, whenever his siblings decided he was free to leave his box. Myriam was the reason why he and his siblings were getting along now, although Elijah was still very much an ass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella reminded him a little of Myriam in that way. Reaching out with that big, beautiful heart of hers. \u201cYeah, alright, but you\u2019re not going back tonight. Tomorrow. And I\u2019ll find you some trinkets to imbue with some magic. Rest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBella, if you truly want to go and make multiple trips a day, you\u2019d better listen to me and rest up,\u201d Kol said with a stern voice. \u201cI can\u2019t do much to help you but at least I can make sure you\u2019re well rested to do it,\u201d he got off the bed and smiled at her. \u201cSo you\u2019re going to rest and I\u2019ll see you in the morning. I\u2019m in the room next door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOkay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo time traveling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo magic,\u201d she replied. \u201cWell, a little but nowhere near enough to make the trip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, my pager is 555-HIKAI, it took me so long to get that one, but I\u2019m so proud of it,\u201d Kai grinned as he handed her her pager. \u201cYours is 555-BELLA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella blinked at that. \u201cHow did you manage that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had some help from my witchy sister. She did something our father doesn\u2019t like and I–\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBlackmailed her into helping you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPretty much,\u201d Kai nodded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor someone you\u2019ve only met yesterday?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYep,\u201d Kai nodded again, popping his P. \u201cBecause you\u2019re like me. And we need to stick together. You\u2019re not like anyone around me, always telling me \u2018no\u2019, \u2018get away\u2019, \u2018you\u2019re an abomination, Kai\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah, but you can\u2019t be any older than me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella let out a sigh as she ran a hand through her hair. \u201cI\u2019m not. I have to admit\u2026 I kinda lied? We did a scrying spell to find another siphoner, there was a medium involved to help pinpoint it and she described you. We truly are that desperate to find someone like me because we don\u2019t know anything.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re lying, but that\u2019s okay, you\u2019re not a threat. You\u2019re this tiny cute little thing,\u201d Kai replied as he put his hands behind his head and stretched himself. \u201cI checked into your claim last night, that the Travelers accidentally created vampires. They\u2019re called Cold Ones and they\u2019re very dangerous. The coven got into contact with them at some point, a friendly Cold One called Peter Whitlock who told them everything about the Cold Ones.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She felt her heart stop for a second. \u201cPeter Whitlock?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou know him?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know of<\/em> him. The Cold Ones I encountered told me that he was bad news.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd still they allowed that scar to happen,\u201d Kai nodded towards her wrist. \u201cBut yes, you\u2019re right, their magic is tainted, unstable. It\u2019s likely because you still have a trace of it inside of you that you respond so wildly on it. But you\u2019re pretty much on your own with this, aren\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella nodded. \u201cI\u2019ll just stay away from them as well as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy? Are there Cold Ones in the area, now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, no, don\u2019t worry,\u201d Bella assured him as she placed a hand on his arm. \u201cI\u2019m actually safer here at the moment until I go back and then I risk getting killed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNothing to worry about,\u201d Bella replied and squeezed his arm. \u201cI\u2019ll crush them with my magic,\u201d she winked at him. \u201cEventually. When I have more of an understanding of my magic and such.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai was shocked to hear that. \u201cYou\u2019re not worried you\u2019ll be killed by a supernatural being that\u2019s far more stronger than you are?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella shrugged. \u201cI was, at first, but circumstances changed. Although\u2026\u201d Bella thought for a moment and sighed. \u201cYeah, no, I\u2019m terrified. These guys are the oldest of them all, they have an army to protect themselves\u2026 And I have myself. And my friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe same friends who provide you with stable magic?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She nodded as she took a trinket out of her pocket. She and Kol had made sure that everything she put some of her and Kol\u2019s magic in wasn\u2019t going to be traceable to their hotel in Portland. In the future. Kol had a lot of fun teaching Bella how to transfer magic into an object, especially considering she only wanted a tiny bit to be transferred. \u201cAnyway, I have to go again. I got you something that I think you might like,\u201d she smiled as she placed the bolt in Kai\u2019s hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai frowned as he looked at the bolt and then at Bella. \u201cIs there magic in this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYep, only a tiny bit though, but I thought we could share the magic, because I think it\u2019s not fair that you don\u2019t have access to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai pocketed the bolt and looked at her. \u201cMessage me when you get back?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, when do you want me to come back?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe idea of you going back to the danger you were in is a bit\u2026 can I help? Or maybe I can get my dad and the coven to help, I\u2019m sure he—\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry about me, I\u2019m safe, for now,\u201d she assured him. \u201cSo, when next?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, not tomorrow. I\u2019ll be indisposed at home,\u201d he sighed deeply. \u201cLectures. Magic lessons, hey, you could come by the house instead! Show the fam that there is such a thing as well-behaved siphoners!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella scrunched up her nose. \u201cNo thanks. I\u2019ll see you on Monday then,\u201d she replied as she got to her feet and started to walk away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCan I walk you home?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNope,\u201d Bella shook her head. \u201cSee you around, Kai.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were in Portland for over a month, in which she kept traveling back to Kai to find things, with the occasional day off for her and Kol to do something fun. They went to the arcade, to the movies, some great restaurants and visited the Pittock Mansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella was so lucky with Kol, even though he had objected to this idea. And they basically had their suspicions confirmed and nothing else. He wasn\u2019t happy that Bella wanted to keep going back to build the friendship with Kai, and Kol admitted to himself that he was jealous because at this point, Kai and Bella were friends for longer than he was with Bella. Jealousy. He hated feeling jealous, and it was likely that she didn\u2019t tell him everything that happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were on their way back to Forks when Myriam called that they had to go to Mystic Falls as a siphoner had popped up and was wreaking havoc in the small town. Kol outwardly groaned at that news, but maybe it was someone new and with more information that they could use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When they arrived at the nearest airport, Bella received a message on her pager with a phone number and the only one who knew the number of her pager was Kai. \u201cNo way,\u201d she mumbled as she grabbed her phone and dialed the number received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBella, is that you?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKai? What the hell?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, good, I thought you\u2019d forgotten about me or had thrown away the pager… 18 years is a long time\u2026 uhh\u2026 I did something stupid which lead to prison\u2026 which then lead me to come back and I did something stupid again\u2026 I need your help. I get it now, uncontrollable magic\u2026 And I might have a hostage.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhere are you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMystic Falls, Virginia, how soon can you be here?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella sighed as she looked at Kol who had a murderous look on his face. \u201cWe were already on our way, hang tight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s the siphoner in Mystic Falls?\u201d Kol asked after Bella hung up. \u201cLet\u2019s just go home instead. Mystic Falls is terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella looked up at Kol and sighed. \u201cThen you go home, I\u2019ll drive to Mystic Falls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s over 5000 miles!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a friend in need!\u201d Bella countered. \u201cBesides, he\u2019s not even supposed to be here, so something must have happened to him. He said he went to prison.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah, and he\u2019s an adult male and he\u2019ll be fine,\u201d Kol argued. He really didn\u2019t want to go to Mystic Falls and knowing that the siphoner was Kai, was the perfect excuse not to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t sound like it,\u201d Bella replied softly. \u201cCan\u2019t we just go? And if he doesn\u2019t need me we\u2019ll go home. But I\u2019d do the same for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol let out a breath. Fine. Sure. For Bella. Because yes, she\u2019d likely do the same for him. But first, he needed to kill something. \u201cGive me five minutes. You don\u2019t want me on a plane like this.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He didn\u2019t like Kai already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
